Ibn al-Qayyim called the remembrance of Allah the polish of the heart — and his short treatise Al-Wabil al-Sayyib is one of the most beautiful things ever written on what dhikr actually does to the soul.

These are my notes and reflections on it, gathered into three parts: the foundations of the believer's inner life; the prayer and the state of the heart within it; and the many fruits of remembrance. Along the way — the five degrees of the prayer, the three kinds of hearts, and why the tongue can remember Allah all day and never tire.

Every ayah and hadith is cited inline with its source, so you can verify each one and return to it yourself.

A companion for anyone who wants to live with a heart that stays turned toward Allah.

Note: these are my personal study notes, meant to sit alongside the original work — not replace it. For the full treatise, seek out a good translation of Al-Wabil al-Sayyib (often titled The Invocation of God*).*
