The Qur’an Reflection System

Meet the creator

The Qur'an Reflection System

Don't let your Qur'anic reflections become passing thoughts.

Read. Recite. Reflect.

You read an ayah. Something resonates with you. You pause to consider its meaning, perhaps discovering a lesson you want to remember.

But days later, can you recall what you learned?

What if you had a dedicated place to preserve those reflections, revisit them and discover how different ayahs connect?

Introducing The Qur'an Reflection System —

a complete digital Qur'an reflection journal designed to help you move beyond simply reading towards understanding, reflecting upon and applying the guidance of the Qur'an.

Not just somewhere to write notes.

A place to build your own personal library of Qur'anic reflections, one ayah at a time.

🌱 From Passing Thoughts to Lasting Reflections

Imagine having somewhere you can:

  • Preserve what you've learned: Record your reflections on individual ayahs and return to them months or years later.

  • Discover connections: Link related ayahs and explore how different Qur'anic themes connect.

  • Visualise your journey: Watch your personal collection of reflections grow through an interactive mind map and graph view.

  • Put knowledge into practice: Consider how the lessons you've studied can influence your daily life.

  • Build consistency: Develop a reflection habit at your own pace, without feeling pressured to complete everything.

Instead of having your reflections scattered across notebooks, apps or forgotten thoughts, you can keep them organised in one dedicated digital workspace.

And as you continue reflecting, you may begin noticing connections between ayahs that you hadn't previously considered.

Your reflections don't have to end when you close the Qur'an.

📖 What Is the Qur'an Reflection System?

The Qur'an Reflection System is a complete digital tadabbur workspace built for Obsidian, a free note-taking application.

It provides a dedicated journal for every ayah of the Qur'an, giving you a structured place to study, reflect, record lessons and connect related verses.

Whether you're beginning your tadabbur journey or already studying tafsir, the system is designed to support your personal reflections.

You don't need to create thousands of notes yourself.

The workspace is already organised for you.

All you need to do is begin reflecting.

💻 Best experienced on a laptop or PC. Also accessible on your phone.

Obsidian is free to download: https://obsidian.md/

✨ What's Included?

📖 A Dedicated Journal for Every Ayah

Every one of the Qur'an's 6,236 ayahs has its own individual reflection journal, organised across all 114 surahs.

Rather than searching through scattered notes, you can open a specific ayah and begin recording what you've learned.

Your reflections remain organised, making it easier to return to them as your understanding develops.

🌙 Arabic Text & English Translation

Each journal comes with:

  • Arabic Qur'anic text sourced from the Tanzil Project.

  • Marmaduke Pickthall's English translation.

This gives you a starting point for studying an ayah before consulting reliable tafsir and recording your reflections.

✍️ Six Guided Reflection Sections

Sometimes the hardest part of journaling is knowing where to begin.

Each ayah journal includes six dedicated sections to guide your reflection:

  1. Understanding the Ayah — Record what you've learned about its meaning through reliable tafsir.

  2. My Reflection — Write down the lessons, reminders and thoughts that stand out to you.

  3. Themes & Connections — Identify related ayahs and recurring Qur'anic themes.

  4. Tadabbur Questions — Consider questions that encourage deeper reflection.

  5. Putting It into Practice — Think about how you can apply what you've learned.

  6. Tafsir Sources — Keep a record of the scholarly explanations and references you've consulted.

You don't have to complete every section in one sitting.

The prompts are there to support your reflection, not turn it into another task to rush through.

🔗 Discover Connections Between Ayahs

One of the most powerful features of digital journaling is the ability to connect your thoughts.

Perhaps you're reflecting on patience in one surah.

Later, you encounter another ayah that discusses patience, reliance upon Allah or gratitude.

Instead of keeping those reflections separate, you can link them together.

Over time, you can build a connected collection of notes that helps you revisit related lessons and explore Qur'anic themes.

You're not just collecting reflections. You're discovering how your reflections connect.

🧠 Visualise Your Reflections

The system includes a Tadabbur Mind Map and supports Obsidian's interactive graph view.

These allow you to:

  • Explore connections between linked ayah journals.

  • Visualise relationships between Qur'anic themes.

  • Discover previously recorded reflections.

  • Expand your personal network of connections as you continue studying.

Imagine opening your journal months from now and seeing how the ayahs you've reflected upon connect through the themes you've explored.

Your growing collection of reflections becomes something you can explore, not just read.

🔎 Qur'an Reflection Index

Navigate the complete collection of 6,236 ayah journals through an organised index.

Find the surah and ayah you want to study without needing to create or organise the journals yourself.

📘 START HERE Guide

A beginner-friendly guide is included inside your download.

It explains how to navigate the workspace, use the reflection prompts, explore the index and begin connecting your notes.

You don't need previous experience with Obsidian to get started.

🌿 What Could Your Reflection Journey Look Like?

Before using a structured journal:

You read an ayah and discover something meaningful.

You intend to remember it, but perhaps you don't write it down.

Later, you encounter another related ayah, but the connection isn't recorded anywhere.

Your reflections may remain scattered or difficult to revisit.

With the Qur'an Reflection System:

You read an ayah and consult its explanation.

You record what you've learned.

You consider how its guidance relates to your life.

You connect it to other ayahs you've studied.

And when you return weeks or months later, your reflections are still there, ready to revisit, expand and learn from.

This doesn't happen automatically.

The system provides the structure, but meaningful reflection requires your own effort, sincerity and continued engagement with the Qur'an.

The goal isn't to fill thousands of journals. It's to make the reflections you do write more meaningful and easier to revisit.

🌙 Who Is This For?

The Qur'an Reflection System is designed for anyone who wants to develop a more intentional and meaningful relationship with the Book of Allah.

This system may be for you if:

  • 📖 You read the Qur'an but struggle to reflect deeply — You want to spend more time pondering its guidance rather than moving straight to the next page.

  • 🌱 You're beginning your tadabbur journey — You want a structured, beginner-friendly way to start reflecting upon the Qur'an.

  • ✍️ You struggle to put your reflections into words — You have thoughts about what you've read but don't always know how to organise or record them.

  • 🧠 You want to remember what you've learned — You've come across meaningful lessons in the Qur'an but struggle to recall them weeks or months later.

  • 🔗 You want to discover connections between ayahs — You're interested in exploring how different verses and Qur'anic themes relate to one another.

  • 🌿 You want to build a consistent reflection habit — You're looking for a way to make tadabbur a regular part of your life, even if you only reflect on one ayah at a time.

  • 📚 You're studying tafsir — You want somewhere to preserve scholarly explanations, record lessons and revisit what you've studied.

  • 🤍 You want the Qur'an to influence your daily life — You don't just want to understand what you've read. You want to consider how its guidance can shape your actions.

  • 📝 Your Qur'anic notes are scattered everywhere — You have reflections in notebooks, phone notes or different apps and want to bring them together.

  • 🌙 You're returning to the Qur'an after a period of inconsistency — You want a gentle, manageable way to rebuild a habit of reflection without feeling overwhelmed.

  • 🌳 You want to see how your understanding develops over time — You want to revisit earlier reflections and recognise how your learning and perspective have grown.

  • 🧩 You enjoy exploring recurring Qur'anic themes — Whether it's patience, gratitude, repentance or reliance upon Allah, you want to organise and connect the lessons you've studied.

You Don't Need to Be an Expert

You don't need extensive knowledge of Obsidian.

You don't need to be an experienced journal writer.

And you certainly don't need to complete every ayah journal.

All you need is the willingness to begin, seek understanding through reliable sources and make time to reflect.

The system provides the structure. You bring the effort, intention and reflections.

One ayah. One reflection. One step towards a deeper connection with the Qur'an.

💡 Why Digital Journaling?

A physical notebook can be a wonderful way to reflect upon the Qur'an.

But digital journaling offers something different.

Your notes can become interconnected.

Instead of keeping reflections confined to individual pages, you can create links between ayahs, themes and lessons.

You can search your reflections, revisit previous entries and expand your notes as your understanding develops.

For example:

You might reflect upon an ayah about gratitude.

Later, you study an ayah about patience.

As you continue studying, you may discover connections between gratitude, patience and reliance upon Allah.

You can record these connections and return to them whenever you wish.

One reflection can lead you back to another.

Over time, you're building more than a collection of notes.

You're developing a personal record of your engagement with the Qur'an.

💻 Recommended: Using the System on a Laptop or PC

For the most comfortable journaling experience, I recommend using the Qur'an Reflection System on a laptop or desktop computer.

A larger screen and physical keyboard make it easier to:

  • Write longer, more detailed reflections.

  • Navigate between ayahs, surahs and tafsir notes.

  • Organise and connect related Qur'anic themes.

  • Explore your Tadabbur Mind Map and Obsidian graph view.

  • Build and revisit your personal collection of reflections.

The system works on Mac and Windows through the free Obsidian application.

A computer is recommended, but not required.

📱 Can I Use It on My Phone?

Yes! The Qur'an Reflection System can also be used through the free Obsidian mobile app.

Obsidian is available for iPhone and Android.

You can access your ayah journals, read the Qur'anic text and translations, record reflections and revisit your notes directly from your phone.

The mobile interface is smaller, so a laptop or PC is recommended for more extensive journaling and exploring connections.

Important: Using the system on multiple devices does not automatically synchronise your reflections. Cross-device syncing requires a separate setup.

💻 How to Get Started — Laptop or PC

Step 1 — Download Obsidian

Visit https://obsidian.md/ and download the free Obsidian application for your computer.

You do not need a paid Obsidian subscription to use this product.

Step 2 — Download Your Qur'an Reflection System

After purchasing, download the ZIP file provided through Beacons.

Save it somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads or Documents folder.

Step 3 — Extract the ZIP File

Unzip the downloaded file to reveal your Qur'an Reflection System folder.

  • Mac: Double-click the ZIP file.

  • Windows: Right-click the ZIP file and select Extract All.

Keep the extracted folder somewhere accessible.

This folder contains your complete Obsidian vault.

Step 4 — Open the Vault in Obsidian

Launch Obsidian.

If you're opening Obsidian for the first time, choose Open folder as vault.

If you already use Obsidian, open the vault switcher and select Open folder as vault.

Locate and select the extracted Qur'an Reflection System Beacons folder.

Obsidian will open your complete reflection workspace.

If Obsidian asks whether you trust the vault's author, review the vault contents and choose the appropriate option.

The included system uses standard Markdown notes, Obsidian Bases and Canvas.

Step 5 — Read the START HERE Guide

Inside the vault, open 00— START HERE.

This guide explains how to navigate the 114 surah folders, use the ayah journals, explore the Reflection Index and work with the Tadabbur Mind Map.

Step 6 — Choose Your First Ayah

Open the Quran folder in Obsidian's left sidebar.

Select a surah, then choose the ayah you wish to study.

For example:

Quran → 001-Al-Fatihah → Al-Fatihah · Ayah 1

Every ayah has its own dedicated reflection journal.

Step 7 — Begin Your Reflection

Read the Arabic verse and its English translation.

Then work through the guided prompts:

  • Consult reliable tafsir to understand the ayah.

  • Record what you've learned.

  • Reflect upon its guidance.

  • Identify related verses and themes.

  • Consider one practical action.

  • Record your tafsir references.

You can type directly into the note beneath each reflection prompt.

You don't have to complete everything in one sitting.

Step 8 — Build Your Personal Qur'an Journal

As you continue studying, your reflections will remain saved inside your Obsidian vault.

You can add tags, link related ayahs, expand the Mind Map and revisit your notes whenever you wish.

Over time, you'll build your own organised collection of Qur'anic reflections.

📱 How to Install on iPhone — Step by Step

You can install and use the Qur'an Reflection System directly on your iPhone without needing a laptop or computer.

Important: You must first create a temporary vault in Obsidian with iCloud storage enabled. This helps establish the Obsidian folder in iCloud Drive, where you'll place your purchased Qur'an Reflection System.

Step 1 — Download Obsidian and Create a Temporary Vault

  1. Download the free Obsidian app from the App Store.

  2. Open Obsidian and select Create new vault.

  3. Give your temporary vault any name, such as Test Vault.

  4. Make sure Store in iCloud is enabled.

  5. Press Create.

This temporary vault is needed to establish the Obsidian folder in iCloud Drive.

Step 2 — Locate the Obsidian Folder in iCloud Drive

  1. Open the Files app on your iPhone.

  1. Open the purchase confirmation email you received from Beacons.

  2. Press the download link for your Qur'an Reflection System.

  3. Download the ZIP file onto your iPhone.

Step 4 — Extract the ZIP File

  1. Find your downloaded ZIP file in the Files app.

  1. Press and hold the extracted Qur'an Reflection System Beacons folder.

  2. Select Copy.

  3. Navigate back to iCloud Drive → Obsidian.

  4. Press and hold an empty space inside the Obsidian folder.

  5. Select Paste.

Your Obsidian folder should now contain:

  • Test Vault (your temporary vault).

  • Qur'an Reflection System Beacons (your purchased system).

Important: Copy the entire extracted folder, not the ZIP file or individual ayah notes.

Step 6 — Open Your Qur'an Reflection System

  1. Return to the Obsidian app.

  2. Open the vault selection screen.

  3. If the copied vault appears, select it. Otherwise, use Obsidian's option to open an existing vault and select the copied folder in iCloud Drive.

If it doesn't appear immediately, check that the extracted vault folder is inside the Obsidian folder in iCloud Drive.

Step 7 — Begin Your Tadabbur Journey

Once inside your reflection system:

  1. Open the START HERE guide.

  2. Navigate to the Quran folder.

  3. Select one of the 114 surahs.

  4. Choose an ayah.
